When were you diagnosed? Tell me your story.
I was 5. I had slept over at my grandmothers and I went to the pool. I decided I wanted to come home because I had to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes. Meme took me to the doctor the next day and they told me I had diabetes.
Tell me about yourself. What activities do you enjoy? What do you participate in at school?
I enjoy soccer, playing with my horse, tumbling, and hanging out with my friends.
Has anyone told you that you couldn’t do something due to your diabetes, and you proved them wrong?
Someone told me I couldn’t play soccer because nobody would want me on their team because I’d have to sit out. I can play a whole game without having to sit out.
How has coming to Camp Seale Harris helped you in your journey with diabetes?
I’ve met new friends. It just makes me happy because I know that everyone else has diabetes just like me.
What tips or advice would you give a newly diagnosed T1D?
You’ll get through it. I know it’s hard, but we all have hard things in our life. You can really do anything. Don’t let anyone stop you just because you have T1D.
